Hello from Camp Wekeela!

Summer 2021 is at it’s midway point and we are so thrilled to have so many campers and staff here at Wekeela this summer. Just like any summer, this summer has presented us with challenges and new adventures. After opening in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we put our knowledge and experience to the test to open and operate during this summer. First session, our unvaccinated campers underwent 4 rounds of COVID-19 testing. We are also proud to have partnered with Hannaford Supermarket to bring eligible campers and staff for their COVID-19 vaccination. We feel that campers and staff needed this summer of connection, friendship, memories, and more after 18+ months of social isolation and remote schooling. Camp is a place where children and young people can learn more about

themselves, gain independence, and have fun – and this summer that has been elevated to another level.

Our highlights of first session included:

An amazing Bear Hunt
The BEST Gladiator ever – Sparta v. Athens with a Sparta surprise victory
College Weekend 2021 – University of Virginia taking the W.
The return of Outdoor Adventure Elements and Ice Skating!
A new partnership with Blackey’s Farm to Table Produce.
The return of off-camp hiking trips!
Western Day
The first ever Wekeela Softball Classic – an instant classic evening activity.
The amazing High School Musical play!
The Neon Dance & the Lobster Bake
First Session was very rainy, but we made the best of our rain days with Lip Sync’s, Bunk Transformations, and Game Shows!
