For the Love of Camp: Why We Plan to Open Camp Wekeela 2020

   Camp News

With camp only a month away, we are closely monitoring all available information related to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Why are we planning on running camp this summer? We are inspired by the health care workers (some of which are our camp parents), on the front lines every day. They roll up and their sleeves and do what needs to get done for our society every day-THIS inspires us to do the challenging work and planning to support our local community in the unprecedented time we’re living in. Sure, there are lots of adjustments to be made, but we’re confident that Wekeela can and will operate as the place we know and love this summer.

While several enrolled families understandably choosing to rollover to summer ‘21 and with-draw from camp this summer, many are all-in for this season! In our 24 years at Wekeela, we were flooded with registrations and requests from new families like we have NEVER BEFORE SEEN.

We are commit-
ted to keeping camp a bit smaller this summer, we have now closed out all groups. Thank you to all who have supported our efforts. This has been a challenge like none other, and we are going to rise to the occasion to make it happen for the many who feel that the reward far outweighs the risks.

We will share pertinent updates if, and when, necessary. So much can (and will) change with the status of COVID-19 between now and the start of camp. As we do with any topic that pertains to the health and well-being of our Wekeela campers, we continue to read, research, discuss with experts, consult with Wekeela parents in the medical world, and pay close attention to Maine CDC guidelines. Please read our COVID-19 Response Plan. We believe our camp has an outstanding health center team , appropriate policies and COVID-19 testing in place to handle communicable diseases. We look forward to welcoming our campers on the 9th of July for the first day of what will be an amazing summer camp season!
