We think that once you understand the depth of our concern for the needs of the campers, you'll understand the principles that guide our staff policies.
Personal Habits
First, we expect every staff member to be clean and well-groomed
at all times. Men will shave regularly and keep their hair trimmed and neat.
You can bring your old beards and mustaches to camp with you, but please
don't plan to start new growth while you're here.
You're a role model. Camp Wekeela is a nonsmoking environment. In terms of consumption of alcohol, use of drugs, and similar matters, we expect all personnel to obey the laws of the State of Maine and the U.S. government. These and other essentially private matters are things that we find it's best to go into in detail during staff training period, but generally we can say that, as a staff member, you will be expected to act at all times as a role model for the campers...
Clothing and Laundry
We expect you always to have fresh, clean clothes. All camper and staff clothing is laundered every other day right on campus by a laundry staff, so this requirement should not be a hardship.
All but international staff members are expected to provide their own bed linens, mattress cover, and towels. You will be required to purchase certain items of camp staff clothing, specifically four t-shirts and a sweatshirt (a minimal investment of about $50). Please note that staff members are expected to wear their staff shirts during all regularly scheduled daytime activities, from breakfast until dinner. In addition, you will be expected to outfit yourself with clothes that are appropriate to a rustic setting - nothing loud or flamboyant - and proper footgear for rugged terrain and athletic situations.
Phones & Internet Staff members are directed to use the pay phones. Staff are free to use the payphones provided to you during free time only.
Camp Wekeela treats incoming e-mails and faxes as regular
mail. Staff have access to high speed DSL internet,
free of charge. You may not download files or visit
inappropriate websites.
