Health forms are due back to us June I0th.
It is very important that you complete the health forms, and sign the parent authorization portion. Without your signature, physicians will hesitate to treat your child - even in the event of an emergency. Remember, though, that we will make every effort to contact parents before even minimal emergency care is provided.
Also, note that your camper must be fully immunized with up-to-date polio and tetanus vaccines before they arrive at camp.
When you will be contacted
If your child encounters minor problems,
such as bruises or scrapes, we are not likely
to contact you. However, if your child has to
spend a night in the infirmary for any reason
or encounters any serious medical problem,
our Head Nurse will call you immediately.
Facilities
In terms of on-site care, our camp infirmary is staffed with pediatric nurses 24 hours a day. The infirmary is centrally located and available to campers at all times. We also maintain links with a local physician who is on-call 24 hours a day. Further, many of our staff, at all levels, are trained in First Aid and CPR.
Medical Costs
Regular nurse visits and all non-prescription medications are offered at no additional cost to you. Please be certain that a health insurance and prescription card has been sent to camp in advance. Payments to doctors as well as any deductibles for medicine will be charged to your
MasterCard or VISA credit card. Contact the camp office to ensure that a credit card number is on file, as well as any deductible for medicine. If a credit card is not available, your camper will need cash. We are not able to bill you or advance any funds for this purpose.
Prior to Arrival
If your child is exposed to any communicable disease after May 19, 2003, please advise us immediately.
Upon Arrival
All campers routinely visit the infirmary for a lice check. While we rarely find this to be a problem, we feel it is safer to examine each child, rather than risk others in the bunk to exposure.
Infirmary Policies
Plan to send any required medications to camp one week prior to your camper's arrival. Provide us with clear documentation of dosage and administration times. Please call the nurses to verify that the medication has been received. When shipping medications, clearly mark each with your child's nome, the type of medication, dosage, and the reason for the medication. Again, we will provide any over-the-counter medications or first-aid products at no cost, so it is not necessary to send these items to camp.
Administering Medication
The nurses will administer all medications. They have devised an excellent tracking and scheduling system, designed to ensure that your child receives his/her medication at the proper dosage level and at the appropriate time.
If you need to discuss your child's specific health needs with one of our pediatric nurses, contact the camp Infirmiry Hotline, (207) 224-7878.
Special Dietary Needs
Camp Wekeela's varied menus for each meal include vegetarian and kosher alternatives Kosher meat is available on a limited basis with an advance payment of $75.00/$110.00/$150.00, depending an session length.
If your child has a specific dietary need, please detail that information on your Getting to Know You Form. In most cases, we can accommodate your child's requests.
